Gregory Expedition Series Backpacks
Fitting Your Gregory Pack
Gregory's Expedition Packs offer the perfect blend of versatility, durability, comfort and organization for multi-day backpacking. Their renowned active suspension system provides support for a weekend, or weeks worth of gear.
Built from rugged 210 denier Cordura® Nylon, Expedition Series packs were designed for extended backpacking trips. These packs feature most of Gregory's top suspension technology, including Auto-Cant™, Adjust-A--Cant™, Flo-Form® II, harnesses and waist belts. Adventure Series packs are the workhorses of the backcountry, and have proven their versatility, comfort and durability over many years. Standard features include a top pocket that becomes a fanny pack, canted water bottle holster, ice axe loops, "V " pull compression system, and large sleeping bag compartments.
AutoCant Shoulder Harness
The Auto•Cant™ shoulder harness system is an exciting new concept for attaching the shoulder harnesses to the pack, and is an exclusive feature found only on Gregory packs. Available on all Professional and Adventure Series packs, and select Escape and Sport Series packs, Auto•Cant™ is based on the simple idea that shoulder straps need to rotate to a range of angles to accommodate individual neck and shoulder shapes, as well as the movement of the shoulders associated with physical activity. Each Auto•Cant™ panel attaches to the framesheet with a single point swivel (aircraft grade aluminum rivet), allowing them to independently rotate and self-adjust to the slope of the shoulders. You can also fine-tune the degree of rotation by tensioning the shoulder stabilizer strap. It’s another example of the ongoing innovation that goes into every Gregory pack.
AdjustACant Waistbelt Panel
The stays themselves are bolted directly to the Adjust•A•Cant™ waistbelt. Molded from engineering grade HDPE, the Adjust•A•Cant™ waistbelt panel is designed with a conical shape that matches the shape of the body around the top of the hips. It wraps continuously from the small of the back, where it is attached to the stays, around to the front of the hips. Direct connection of the stays to the Adjust•A•Cant™ panel results in direct transfer of the pack’s weight to the hips. Conventional waistbelts simply cannot support and transfer the load in the same way.
This integrated system, composed of the stays, framesheet and Adjust-a-Cant™ panel is highly efficient and capable of supporting truly expedition-sized loads.
AdjustACant Waistbelt
The AdjustoAoCant™ waistbelt grew out of an effort to better address the needs of women. Feedback from Gregory's customers showed that traditional waistbelts often didn't fit women's hips properly. Straight-sided waistbelts simply did not distribute weight evenly around the hips. In response, they developed the AdjustoAoCant™ system, which has improved fit for women and men alike.
The AdjustoAoCant™ panel can be adjusted to three different cant settings to accommodate various hip-to-waist angles - 16, 18 and 20 degrees. During the fitting process, if there is a gap at the top or bottom edge of the waistbelt pad, the AdjustoAoCant™ panel can be fine tuned to eliminate the gap and create even weight distribution between the pad and the body. The adjustment is simple and results in even distribution of the pack's weight over the entire surface of the waistbelt. Eliminating hot spots and ridges of pressure helps ensure all-day comfort.
FloForm®
Flo•Form® technology is what creates a higher level of comfort in Gregory packs. Flo•Form® refers to our patented process for thermo-molding laminates of foam and fabric to create shapes and components that can’t be duplicated with conventional sewing techniques. Gregory was the first to apply this technology to large internal frame backpacks well over five years ago.
When conventional fabrics are bent or stitched, they bunch and crease. Put these creases against your body, add fifty pounds, and you'll experience chafing and discomfort. Flo•Form® allows our waistbelts, shoulder harnesses and backpanels to be molded to match specific shapes of the body. Built-in creases and channels prevent straps and harnesses from bunching against the body, and also promote unmatched ventilation.
Like the most expensive ski boot liners, foam laminates create a personalized fit that cannot be replicated using conventional materials. Although others may mimic our technology, we are already using third generation Flo•Form® technology, and will continue to lead through innovation in design and manufacturing technologies.
